NYFW & MFW FAVOURITE SHOWS

September might be the craziest fashion month. With New York, Milan, London and Paris Fashion Week happening, people in the fashion world are rushing from one side of the world to another. A lot of shows happen each day. Therefore, it's almost impossible to know about all of them but anyway, today I'm talking about my favourite ones of New York and Milan Fashion Week.

I find that the main constants amongst the shows in this post are monochrome outfits (check out last week's post) and contrast as well: lace and military, soft and vibrant colours, toughness and nude tones, sport and elegance, simplicity and uniqueness.

Puede que Septiembre sea el mes más frenético de la moda. Con las semanas de la moda de Nueva York, Milan, Londres y París, la gente del mundo de la moda corre de un lado a otro del mundo. Se celebran muchos desfiles cada día, por lo que es prácticamente imposible estar enterado de todos ellos pero, de todos modos, hoy voy a hablar de mis colecciones favoritas. Las principales constantes de estas colecciones son los conjuntos monocromáticos (mira mi último post aquí) y los contrastes: encaje y estilo militar, colores suaves y vibrantes, dureza y tonos delicados, deporte y elegancia, simplicidad y singularidad.

COACH 1941 (New York)

Coach 1941's collection is definitely one of my favourites. The combination of floral see-through lace dresses with chunky platform shoes and varsity jackets creates contrast and sophistication. I really enjoy watching shows that have a theme, a constant aesthetic, something which Coach 1941 spring collection definitely has. Quoting Vogue, the collection is "reminiscent of the stylings of the Elvis fans that Swiss photographer Karlheinz Weinberger captured back in the ’50s". A clothing piece that -I find- stands out is the embellished jacket: from military from biker style, they were beautifully studded, fringed or printed.

La colección de Coach 1941 es, sin lugar a dudas, una de mis favoritas. La mezcla de vestidos de encaje transparentes con zapatos de plataforma y chaquetas varsity. Los desfiles que más me gustan son aquellos con una temática, una estética constante: algo que Coach 1941 hizo ver. Citando a Vogue, la colección "es evocadora de los estilos de los fans de Elvis que el fotógrafo suizo Karlheinz Weinberger capturó tiempo atrás en los años 50". Una pieza que -en mi opinión- sobresale, es la chaqueta adornada. Las versiones varían desde militares a moteras, con flecos, estampados y tachuelas.

DIESEL BLACK GOLD (Milan)

Diesel collections are known for being everything but sweet. This year, they've proved you can indeed be tough in a palette of nude and ivory (and a tiny bit of khaki). As the designer said backstage, “duality makes for a fascinating play. There’s strength in fragility; there’s power in the feminine, vulnerable side.” This could perfectly be the motto of the collection. The combination of tough materials and soft tones is key. And so are the monochromatic outfits (which I personally adore).

Las colecciones de Diesel tendrán fama por muchas cosas, pero no por ser precisamente delicadas o femeninas. Este año han demostrado que se puede ser duro con una paleta de colores pálidos, marfil, y una pizca de caqui. Como dijo el diseñador en el backstage, "la dualidad hace de ello un juego fascinante. Hay fuerza en la fragilidad, y poder en el lado femenino y vulnerable". Este podría ser perfectamente el logo de la colección. La combinación de materiales rígidos y tonos suaves es clave, como también lo es la uniformidad de colores.

MARNI (Milan)

Oversized monochromatic looks -that were sometimes tight around the waist- starred in the show along with pointy shoes and bags that could perfectly work as suitcases. The collection is made out of structured fabrics which create volume and creases. I wouldn't call Marni´s a sexy collection, but I know I would feel like a boss wearing it. Castiglione explained to the critics the fusion of architectural planes and decorative techniques in the clothing pieces.

Los looks monocromáticos y excesivamente grandes -a veces ajustados en la cintura- protagonizaron el desfile junto con zapatos puntiagudos y bolsos que perfectamente podrían servir de maleta. Las prendas son de materiales relativamente rígidos que crean volumen y pliegues. No diría que la de Marni es una colección sexy, pero sé que me gustaría llevarla. Castiglione explicó la fusión de arquitectura y técnicas decorativas en las prendas.

VERSACE (Milan)

Versace presented what looked to me like a futuristic outdoor sporty collection. The shiny materials, the athletic vibes, the vibrant colours, the elastics (incorporated even in a leather jacket), ... it all reminds of a very fashionable gym session. I really admire the uniqueness of the collection: how it joins the sporty style in all sorts of clothing.

Versace presentó lo que parecía una colección de prendas de deporte con toques futuristas. Los materiales brillantes, el tono atlético, los colores vibrantes, los elásticos (incluso en cazadoras de cuero),.. todo recuerda una sesión de gimnasio muy a la moda. Lo que más admiro de la colección es que adapta el estilo deportivo a todo tipo de prendas y ocasiones, lo reinterpreta.

SALVATORE FERRAGAMO (Milan)

The 25th of September Salvatore Ferragamo presented its collection. I love the clean modern cut, the structured pieces that really flatter the feminine figure and the soft colours. Fulvio Rigoni said he wanted to juxtapose fluid femininity with sportswear. Something that caught my eye were the platform shoes that go up the leg like crochet socks.

El 25 de Septiembre Salvatore Ferragamo presentaba su colección. Me encantan el corte limpio y moderno, las piezas estructuradas que favorecen la figura femenina, y los colores suaves. Fulvio Rigoni explicó la juxtaposición de ropa de deportes y feminidad fluida en la colección. Algo que me llama la atención son los zapatos de plataforma que suben como calcetines de crochet.
